Themes of RITMER
The actions of
RITMER must be specific and targeted to the following themes:
- The characterisation of transported products:
- physico-chemical behaviour after a spill
- impacts on the ecosystems (ecotoxicology) and temporal evolution.
- Technologies for tracking and monitoring of pollutants (on the sea surface, underwater, in sand
) :
- prediction of drift (modelling, quantification, evolution, transport)
- observation and monitoring of drift (airborne tools, instruments, methods of tracking, surveillance and monitoring
at the surface and underwater).
- The recuperation and treatment of pollutants at sea and on land:
- treatment products
- techniques of implementation
- techniques of confinement and of recuperation.
- Management of the wrecks:
- immediate confinement
- in situ monitoring
- technologies of intervention and surveillance
- surveillance after intervention.
- Management of risks with respect to the ecosystems:
- vulnerability indices and sensitivity maps
- prediction and evaluation of impacts (particularly on the food chain)
- decision-making tools.
- Technologies for the protection and rehabilitation of sensitive sites and ecosystems:
- littoral zone improvements
- mobile techniques of intervention
- techniques for avoiding contacts and transfers to threatened surfaces and species
- techniques for biological rehabilitation.
- Treatment technologies for the collected waste (transformation of the waste into a final form) :
- storage
- treatment
- elimination.
- Methods of managing the risks:
- identification of risks
- management of the crisis.
Remarks:
- The phrase "research and technological innovations " must be taken in it's broadest sense: the projects of RITMER
can impact on the methodologies and procedures of treatment, or of rehabilitation, on methods of cleaning, on
models, on research for operational goals.
- Socio-economic research is outside the scope of RITMER, except if the project is a part of a technological
project.
- The establishment of a "time zero" condition for a given ecosystem, while essentiel for evaluating the
impacts of a given accident, is also outside the scope of RITMER.
